Title

Hitter practices maintaining balance through stride and loading while holding the finish position to groove sequencing and prevent over-rotation.

Compilation

If this video stacks several distinct drills back-to-back, split it into individual, draggable drills — each with its own clip, steps, and tags.

Coach's take

Great for building: Load timing and hip-shoulder separation to create rotational power from the ground up.

Builds toward Generating power to drive the ball with proper body sequencing and adjustability to different pitches.

What it is

Hitter takes a soft-toss feed from the side at a 45-degree angle, takes a deliberate stride, and holds the balanced finish position without swinging through. The coach flips the ball, the hitter loads, strides, and pauses at extension to lock in weight transfer and upper-body control. Reps groove the stride-and-balance sequence in isolation before adding the full swing.

What it practices

Develops consistent stride length and timing, hip-to-shoulder separation during load, and weight distribution through the hitting sequence. Trains the hitter to maintain balance and posture at extension without chase or over-rotation.

Focuses on improving

Targets hitters with rushing or lunging strides, or hitters who collapse or spin out of their finish. Builds awareness of the correct load-stride-balance sequence for repeatable, controlled contact.

How to run it

3 sets of 5-8 swings. Perform daily to build rhythm.

Setup

  1. 1Place a tee with a baseball at the desired contact point.
  2. 2The hitter stands with feet together, facing the tee, holding the bat with relaxed hands.
  3. 3Ensure enough space for a full stride and follow-through.

Run the drill

  1. 1From feet together, the hitter slowly strides forward with the front foot.
  2. 2As the front foot lands, hands remain back, creating separation between the upper and lower body.
  3. 3Use the front foot landing as a trigger to pull the hips and initiate the swing.
  4. 4Fire the hips and drive the barrel through the ball, finishing the swing.

Coaching cues

  • Feet together.
  • Relax your hands.
  • Slow stride, fast swing.
  • Land and fire.
  • Separate hips and shoulders.

Common mistakes

  • Pushing hands back during the stride instead of letting them come naturally with body rotation.
  • Drifting forward too early, losing balance or posture before the swing.
  • Failing to pull the trigger with the front foot, leading to a slow hip rotation or cast.

Progressions

  • Easier: No tee, just dry swings focusing on the movement and timing.
  • Harder: Increase stride distance. Add soft toss or front toss instead of a tee. Focus on hitting different pitch locations.
